merry christmas!

Once again we had a wonderful, albeit very busy, Christmas. Here are some of the highlights...

Trip to see Santa: As previously blogged we had a great time in Seattle. There was a slight setback...we hit it just at ethnic Santa time. I'm sorry but Mrs. Claus just frightened me. You be the judge.

Christmas Eve: Our Coury family gathering. The breakfast was amazing, we all ate too many sticky buns, and kicked off a nice day together. After opening gifts the kids went down for a little rest, and we played Scrabble. With an assist from Brian, the game was won by Annette. I think this should become an annual tradish. Dinner followed, and did not disappoint. Delicious prime rib!

After dinner we got the kids dressed in jammies and headed to church for the Christmas Eve service. Brian and I took turns with Noah in the foyer. At the end of the service the pastor made a comment that if anyone didn't have a Bible the church would be happy to give them one. Ava raised her hand and said "I don't have a Bible." She took him quite literally, she didn't have a Bible...right then.

At home we got the cookies ready for Santa, poured the milk, and hung the stockings. Daddy got ready to read "The Night Before Christmas" but Noah wanted nothing to do with it. He was preoccupied by the cookies. Who in the world was this Santa character and why didn't he want to share his cookies???

Fast forward to bedtime and Ava is being tucked in. All of the sudden she launches into a story about how she doesn't want Santa to land on her roof. She then gives Brian very specific instruction that he is to put a sign in the front yard that tells Santa NOT to land on the roof. Brian is to wait outside until Santa comes and make sure he lands in the back yard only. It took an hour to talk her off this ledge. Who knew????

Christmas Day: We woke up to Ava telling us "look out guys, I'm comin in!" She got in bed with us for just a little bit then we headed down to open stockings! This was the first year Ava really got into it and boy did she love that Pez! I'm pretty sure she emptied everyone elses along with her own.

Breakfast - Brian opened with the Christmas story from the book of Luke. He'd made a delicious breakfast for everyone and we all ate until we couldn't hold anymore. Gotta love this man's french toast with strawberries!

Once presents were opened we all got ready to head down to the Arnold's. Noah, being used to getting an afternoon nap, fell asleep about Kent. I stayed with him in the car for a bit longer once we arrived in Tacoma so he could catch a little nap.

Food, so much to eat! I should have taken my stretchy pants! We had the cousin exchange (the girls), and the boys revisited the "hug exchange" again this year. Hmmm, I think you had to be there but there was a point that Morgan and I had to raise our eyebrows at Brian/Lorne.

We all went home exhausted but in a very good way.

Here's a slide show to go along with the editorial...MERRY CHRISTMAS!
