The kids played in their first golf tournament today! Gramma, Grampa, and Daddy bought the kids new "big kid" golf clubs. Today, they broke them in. Best part? They got to play WITH Daddy! This tournament really is a lot of fun. Each year Tam O'Shanter hosts the Pro-Junior tournament, and after the match the kids all get to attend the Mariners game. Double win. The kids did pretty well for being their first time on the course. The team took 3rd, and Ava won 1st place for the long drive in her age division! As a kid I really didn't like golf, but my Papa did. He tried to get me to play. Looking back I wish that I had taken more time to try...not to grow a love for the game of golf...but to just spend time with him. He would have loved seeing these two play and enjoy a game he loved.
At the game!
They have better swings now than I ever had. I'm amazed.
This year the US Open is at Chambers Bay. How could this guy pass up the opportunity? Ava and Noah were just a little excited to spend the day with daddy, AND get to see the golfers in real life. They surprised me with their boldness, those hats were covered with signatures!
This was about the cutest thing ever. We are all sitting on the deck after church, having lunch, and discussing the tournament on tv today...when Noah disappears. When he comes back out he's got a driver, and starts telling Brian about what he thinks Kyle should change about his swing. He then did not want to repeat himself for Brian's video because he was concerned about being rude or disrespectful to Kyle. That's my boy, I love him. It really did take quite awhile to get him to repeat the "lesson," respectfully, and without hurting Kyle's feelings. Brian just about fell out of his chair. It's perfect.
This year Brian was able to take Noah, freshly turned 7 years old, to the WA Open final round. Noah was very excited to watch daddy play in a tournament. I was a tiny bit worried he wouldn't be able to contain his energy for 18 holes. Brian, however, said he was a champ! There were three other pros playing with Brian, and they were very kind to Noah. On one particular hole Noah walked up to one of the men and said, "You are a pretty good looking golfer." I. Love. Him. The other player told Brian later that was the nicest compliment he'd ever received! Noah can't wait to "caddy" for dad again.
We have been blessed by some warmer weather this past weekend. The kids begged Brian to take them to the driving range, and then ice-cream (of course!).
It's that time of year again! The kids really get excited about Saturday's in February. It's something to look forward to in the middle of winter. They were blessed with some really great weather this year too! While it won't exactly get them tour ready, they really like Kyle and being part of a class. It's pretty fun to go see daddy at work on Saturday too! Added bonus, Noah gets to wear his growing collection of newsboy caps. Too cute!
This year Noah was so excited to get to attend the Tiny Tots golf class at Tam O'Shanter! Poor guy wanted to go last year but was just too young.
Kyle is a great teacher and the kids have really enjoyed it thus far. They wish it was more than just four Saturday's in February!
Noah had his three footer all lined up, ready to putt, takes the putter back nice and slow.....uh...oops. Enter the young man to Noah's left. He decided soccer was more fun and kicked Noah's ball. My ever gracious three year old is about let this fellow classmate know that was rather unkind. Noah: "Don't you ever do vat [that] again."
In the end both kids and Kyle survived, and Noah was very excited to get his first trophy!
Daddy got Ava her own golf bag and clubs for her birthday. We've been to the range a couple of times and the kids have a lot of fun. (mostly trying to hit the ball picker) ...and no, that is not a soda! That girl has enough energy to power a small country.
This year Brian played in the Washington Open tournament at Glendale G & CC. We decided that it might be fun for Ava to see what Daddy does when he's gone playing golf. Since we couldn't make it Monday (rain), or Tuesday (school), we went on Wednesday. The weather was perfect, and Nana took Noah for the day so I could just take Ava to the golf course.
When we arrived I had no idea where Brian would be, but hoped we would catch him close to the turn. It turns out our timing was great, we walked up to #10 and saw Kyle. We asked him if Brian was close and it turned out he was in the group right behind Kyle. Ava enjoyed watching Kyle tee off and then we waited for Daddy to finish #9. We waited by the tee and a several minutes later Brian's group came around the clubhouse. Brian was last to arrive and was VERY exited to see his girls.
Ava walked seven holes and did really great. She was quiet when she needed to be and calm for most of the time in between. The course was beautiful, and Ava quite enjoyed the strolls over bridges and tossing buttercups into the creek. We stopped walking with them on #16 but stayed by the green at #18 to watch Kyle and Brian's groups finish. Truth be told, I think Ava preferred picking flowers (...auntie Katie???) but we both really enjoyed ourselves.
