October 2017

Fall is here!  Some of my favorite moments from October.

Run a mile.  Check.  Halloween.  Check.  Go Hawks.  Check.

trick or treat

This year we are studying Classical Conversations Cycle 2, and that included the Protestant Reformation.  We took the time to study a little more about Martin Luther, and what October 31st still means for Protestants today.  Reformation Day.  I learned just as much as the kids.

Since it was our normal school day at the Joneses we spent most of the day with great friends.  After school, and a fun time of playing outside for the kids, we headed to the Courtier house for dinner. This was the first year the kids got to go trick-or-treating with their friends.  They had a blast!

First stop was the infamous Pirates of the Caribbean house.  It did NOT disappoint.  Wow.
These were just about the cutest trick-or-treaters I've ever seen.
...SO cute!

harry potter halloween

How blessed am I to have a mom who can sew the most amazing costumes ever?  It makes Halloween a whole lot easier.  This year we have Harry Potter and Hermione Granger.  Vera was a pretty cute little pirate.
...and the loot.

may the force be with you

This was the year of Star Wars.  We started off with our good friend Luke Walker Price's birthday party.  With a name like that a Star Wars party is a must.  Christy did such a great job with the treats and decorations!  Check out the Jedi robe my mom made for Noah.  I could say I made Ava's but that would be lying.  Thank you Amazon.

These guys are pretty awesome.

A quote from Noah...during dress rehearsals...as he's on the floor with arms and legs spread out and eyes closed.
Ava:  Noah, what are you doing?
Noah:  Ava, I'm pretending to be dead...then when the droids come I will get up and be fierce.
Luke's Party - Jedi Luke and Pilot Luke / Young Princess Leia and grown up Leia with kids
Halloween - Trick or Treat....I dare you to give these two the wrong answer.

happy hallows eve

This year we got to play dress up twice! Our little friend Luke turns one on Halloween, but the party was on Saturday. Then, they got to dress up for their Harvest party at Awana.
Love these guys.

halloween

This year we went through the Coury's neighborhood. The kids were very excited. Ava went last year in Arizona (so much warmer to do this there), but this was Noah's first year.

Ava agreed not to be Rapunzel this year if she could be Snow White WITH red lips. Deal.

This is Snow White and her fearless fireman. He's getting ready to put the people's elbow on Halloween.

The loot. It was reaaaaaally heavy!

...aaand this is what happens when you've had one too many.

Suckers! Abby even unwrapped one from the bucket on the floor and helped herself.

arizona: trick-or-treat

My strategy for Halloween this year was to distract. I didn't realize Ava was going to be so persistent. Each time she saw a decoration, or someone asked her "what are you going to be," she would answer with such enthusiasm. Problem, the costume changed each time. Finally on Friday after realizing this wasn't going away, we hit the dollar store to see what we could come up with. We had some black netting/tulle from one of my old bridesmaid dresses then added; a glow in the dark wand, Hawaiian lei, a purple shirt, and one spool of purple ribbon. Then, I stood back and watched Auntie Katie and Nana work their magic. A couple hours later you had...
The Fanciest Nancy Ever!

We went to the Garr's house just to let Ava ring a doorbell other than ours. When we got there the streets were very busy with kids and adults dressed up and Ava's eyes were the size of saucers. What started out as just going across the street to the neighbor for one trick-or-treat turned into the entire street! She took along her new buddies Mollie and Gavin too!
