2012 Olymics

Our family has been enjoying the 2012 Olympics, and it's been all the more fun to see them through the eyes of Ava & Noah. While I've enjoyed many of the events, my personal favorite (and by deflection my kids favorite) has been women's beach volleyball. I'm a fan of Misty May and Kerri Walsh and it was a blast watching them compete in London for their third gold medal. The match was on last night but I wanted to watch it with the kids. It took all my self control but it was worth it. They were totally into the match, and were very excited when May/Walsh won.

After the match Ava became Misty May-Treanor and Noah (who also wanted to be Misty, mainly because he couldn't remember Kerri's name) was Kerri Walsh Jennings. They quickly informed me they would be needing some gold medals. I was happy to oblige.

Before heading out to the backyard for their match, Ava asked me..."Mom, can you put my hair in one of those braid things?
Me: Sorry honey, your hair isn't quite long enough.
Ava: but...eh...I...(sigh)..well can you just pony my tail?

After convincing her a ponytail would do, Ava needed to get her glasses and headband to complete the look. Then she turned to Noah and said it was time for the match! Unfortunately, Noah was still a little disgruntled about not getting to be Misty and declined. Ava's response: "well Noah, if you don't play you won't get a medal, the Chinese will get it."
Noah finally went out and they had quite a match. When they won Ava (followed by Noah) went around the yard giving high-fives to the fences. Priceless. And pretty good re-enactment of Misty after winning!

Here's the dynamic duo of May-Treanor and Walsh Jennings after winning their gold medals.
