ready, set, race!

Awana Grand Prix

I had no idea what I was getting us into when we picked up the blocks of wood.  While I tried to get the pre-cut pieces that the kids could just paint and have fun with, Brian's eye's locked on the unshaped blocks.  He was so excited I stood back and said it's all yours.  I can't cut wood worth anything so this has to be all you and the kids.

He proceeded to ask each one what they'd like their car to look like.  Noah wanted a crocodile, and Ava wanted a leopard.  I was QUITE impressed with his skills.  The setup was quite serious.  They had the track along with computer results board.  Very official!  Each car got to race four times, once on each track, which was fun for the kids to see their names and cars race four times.

Despite the look on his face here, Noah was very excited to win 3rd Place for Design in his category (Cubbie/Other).

It was a pretty fun event.  Now I know what to expect for next year!  There were some pretty creative cars.  I have to say I am so proud of Ava.  At one point there was a break and I told her she could go find a friend to hang out with.  Off she went in search of a fellow Spark.  It took her quite awhile to search through the sea of kids and parents, but she didn't give up and did it all on her own.
