beach and checkups

Today was one of those very full, yet very good days. We met up with Heather, Sam and Maggie for some beach time at Gene Coulon. The weather couldn't have been any better. The kids played at the park, had lunch, then headed for the water. They could have stayed there ALL day. I foolishly didn't bring their suits because we had to be at the doctor by 2:30. My flawed thinking was if they don't have suits they won't get that wet and will be easier to clean up. Wrong. At one point Ava "slipped" and was completely soaked and Noah was up past his waist. Next time, suits. They had a wonderful time and allowed the mommy's to do some much needed catching up! Sitting there on the shore with the breeze coming off the water....perfection.
Leaving was the hardest part. They kids had their annual checkups and we needed to get going. Wet clothes, sandy toes, and all!  (yes I had dry clothes for them but we may have brought a little sand to the dr office).

At the doctor both kids were weighed and measured, and this year was the one. Noah finally passed Ava in the height department (he's outweighed her for awhile now). Ava weighed in at 43 lbs (5-10%) and 3'10 3/4" (25%). Noah, my growing boy, weighed in at 47 lbs (95%) and 3'11" (95%). If there was a way to stock up on PB, bread, and honey now for the coming years I would. Both kids had eye and hearing tests, which was humorous for me to watch. The hearing test in particular...I remember Ava doing this two years ago. Noah was told to say "beep" when he heard the sound. He performed like a champ, the humorous part was him mirroring the tones of the "beep". If it was low, he said "beep" in a low voice, and when it was higher he'd say "beep" in a higher voice.

I did discuss Noah's reflux issues (GERD - Gastroesophageal reflux disease) and it was decided we should just keep monitoring him since there really wasn't any pain associated with the throw-up. The only solution would be surgery to correct the lower esophageal muscle that holds the top of the stomach closed. The problem is this solution doesn't grow with him. It's more rigid and would require multiple surgeries as he grows. Weighing the options, not worth it. He could also grow out of it, another reason not to have the surgery.

Overall, the kids are very healthy and I am a thankful and grateful mama.
