achilles...round 2

You know what I was thinking...the Achilles scar on the back of my ankle is just really lonely and non-symmetrical.  *sigh*  What's a girl to do?  Ah, I got it.  I'll just rupture my other Achilles.  BAM.

What actually happened...I was playing volleyball, having a good time, going for a serve when SNAP.  Down I go.  For the briefest moment I thought to myself, "whom or what just hit me?"  As I hit the floor I realized what that horrible sound and feeling was...my other Achilles.  The folks on my team were great, helped me off the court, went to get my car (thanks Isaac!), and I was able to drive home.  About five minutes into the drive the shock wore off and ouch.  For the next couple of hours the pain was pretty intense.  There were tears of pain, frustration, and maybe a little hysterical laughing because.....really?!

****the last time I ruptured my Achilles I was able to borrow a knee scooter and crutches, huge blessing but guess what I found this time?!  PIRATE LEG!  game changer****

Surgery day.  Although I've done this before, it still made me nervous.  The doctor came by to see me in pre-op..."its actually really rare for a second Achilles to rupture."  Grrrrrrreat.  That makes it better.  After you get out of surgery the nurse will ask you what cracker/drink you would like.  The first thing I can remember....at all....is seeing my family coming back to get me.  There were graham crackers and a coke next to me.  There were bites taken from the crackers.  I have no idea how that happened.

These are the awesome people that were waiting for me.  That hair.

Today is Brian's birthday!  Happy birthday husband!  It's also cast day, or as I like to call it, "prison for my leg" day.  The kids got to see my stitches pulled out, and chose my cast color.  Let's call that science for today.  Last time I had to wear the hard cast for FIVE weeks.  Prior to today's appointment I prepared myself for the long haul.  Then...my doctor's beautiful PA asked me if I had the next appointment scheduled.  Yes, for five weeks from today.  She looked very confused.  I then got the best news ever.  Not five weeks....TWO (and a half) weeks!  What?!  I would do a happy dance...but I only have one leg.

One leg...I can still workout with ShaunT!

It's CAST OFF DAY for me!  Break out the saw, let's get this leg free.  While this time went faster...it wasn't nearly as exciting nor did I have 15 people watching.
